SGI Canada announced a major pilot project partnership with the Canadian Red Cross in Saskatchewan. The project will see the two organizations team up to provide disaster recovery relief for residents across the province, offering both financial and volunteer support for families recovering from disasters.

Communications Consultant with SGI, Jennifer Rathwell, explained that the partnership just seemed to make sense.

"Many SGI employees deal directly with people who have had property or automobiles damaged due to extreme events - storms, flooding, fires. This partnership kind of formalizes this relationship, and the employees' willingness to help will be recognized and will give them additional opportunities to volunteer as well."

A large amount of funding will be provided by SGI, going to a number of different areas.

"SGI Canada has committed $35,000 in funding, and that includes $25,000 for Flood Clean Up Kits and assisting families with long-term recovery needs, and an additional $10,000 will be provided for equipment and necessities as identified."

Last month, 15 families on Standing Buffalo First Nation received Clean Up Kits to assist not only homes evacuated by wildfires but also homes impacted by smoke.

This partnership is the first of its kind in Canada and has the potential to spread to other provinces if things go well.
