It's a section of road in town that has caused frustration for some residents of Estevan.

The intersection of Sister Roddy Road, which runs north past the west side of the St. Joseph's Hospital, and Wellock Road is in much need of improvement, as Mayor Roy Ludwig noted at Monday night's City Council meeting.

"It's always been an irritant for our public when turning from Wellock to Sister Roddy because, in that less than a half a block stretch, it gets your vehicle muddy. We thought that we would take the bull by the horns, and council agreed to get it paved during our program this year."

He noted that waiting for the area to be developed first wasn't really practical, as there is no guarantee as to a timeline for that.

"It's not a large area. We could get it done in conjunction with at bigger paving project and, through economies of scale, save money along the way."

"Sister Roddy is about a 450 meter stretch of road. It's a very small section of asphalt work that we will be doing," added City Engineer Kifloum Weldeab.

"There is enough gravel there from a lot of construction over there over the last few years, so we are just going to re-level it with about 6 inches and then lay down the asphalt."

He added that it won't take very long to complete the project.
