Yesterday, at approximately 4 pm, the Estevan Fire department was called out north of the city.

"We were dispatched to a possible grass-fire about two miles northeast of the airport," explained Deputy Fire Chief, Rick Davies. "We got onscene and there was indeed a small fire in the field."

He added that it was possibly a controlled burn.

"We didn't have contact with any of the landowners so we quickly extinguished it and left."

There was also a call earlier this morning about a possible rubbish fire and adds that crews found someone burning wood.

"Just an investigative call, nothing serious."

He does note that according to the City's bylaws, it is illegal to burn branches and leaves.

"The only burning you're allowed to do is a controlled burn inside a permanent fire-pit that you have a permit for."
