Another winter storm has arrived in the month of March in the Energy City. Once again, the public is being asked to be careful if travelling, as the road conditions are not conducive to safety.

"Watch for stopping distances. When the roads get slippery, drive the appropriate speed based on the road conditions," said Sergeant Craig Bird of the Estevan Police Service.

"If you're headed out on the highway, make sure that you have the proper safety gear in the vehicle, just in case you do go off the road and get stuck."

"I would encourage people, if they didn't have to travel today, to postpone their plans till the storm moves through," added Corporal Craig Park with the Estevan RCMP.

"Less people on the road makes things a lot easier for snow clearing and stuff afterwards."

He advised that, if you do have to travel, to plan your trip and let other's know your itinerary. Otherwise, it may be better to sit back and ride things out.

"You're looking at snow continuing into Saturday morning, and then starting to taper off early. Down in your neck of the woods, by the time everything is said and done, you're looking at quite bit of snow. 10-15 centimeters is what we're forecasting, and with the stronger winds you're seeing right now, we're looking at reduced visibility on the roadways with it near zero at times, continuing through into the afternoon, before winds start to die down a little bit later," said Regional Meteorologist John Paul Cragg.

He also noted that a chance of freezing drizzle overnight means that the roads won't get any better, though it'll fall on snow and so reduce the risk somewhat. All precipitation during the day is expected to be purely snow.
