When the phone rings for the Estevan Police Service, more often than not it involves the report of a scam of some sort, a common trend being identified by local law enforcement.

"They're targeting all kinds of people. Lots of times, they ask for cash and you send cash before you get a larger sum back, so you've got to watch out for those," said Sergeant Tyler McMillen.

"We're also having them reported off Facebook and other social media. There's certain places where you can click on to 'apply for different grants', where they try to trick you into giving them money that way, too. We've got to be careful there."

He advised that, if you're ever in doubt as to the legitimacy of something, to check with another source first.
