"This is the Third Annual Memorial Golf Tournament that we have for Captain Neil Kish," explained Dale Feser, Chief of the Estevan Fire and Rescue Department. "He was a huge, huge part of our department. Unfortunately he passed away three years ago and has left a huge hole in the department. This is one of the ways we honour him and make sure that we remember him."

He adds that the tournament was a great success with 80 golfers taking part.

In addition to the regular prize holes, there was one new one called The Marshmallow Drive.

"You had to hit a marshmallow from a tee and whoever hit the marshmallow the farthest won a prize."

Marshmallows could be purchased, $3 for one or $5 for three which also helped to go towards the fundraising.

"I cannot thank the citizens of Estevan, and actually people right across Saskatchewan because people around Saskatchewan purchased tickets from us. So they made this a huge success."

Tickets were also available for a 50/50 draw worth $20,000. Tickets were available up until the start of the tournament before they completely sold out.

"All the 50/50 tickets were sold out so it gave us a really good peace of mind to go out there on the golf course and really enjoy the rest of the day. It was right down to the wire."

All the money raised through the golf tournament and the 50/50 draw will go to replace aging equipment.

"We're looking at replacing our side by side unit, our 6x6 Ranger which is currently 15 years of age. Now what we're looking at is something to replace that with. That way we can successfully provide rescue for people maybe involved in a snowmobile accident or an ATV accident. We also use it for swift water rescue and ice water rescue in the winter. It's such a universal piece of equipment that we need to utilize in our department."
