In 2016, students at Sacred Heart started a campaign to stop vehicles from idling in front of the school.School buses in the southeast will soon be a little more environmentally friendly.

"We're going with gas buses for the cities of Weyburn and Estevan,"  explained Andy Dobson, Manager of Facilities and Transportation with the Southeast Cornerstone School Division.

"They warm up quicker. You don't have to sit there and idle them."

Diesel buses will still be used in the rural routes.

The new buses will also be fitted with exterior cameras that will be able to identify drivers who fail to stop when the bus has its lights on and stop arm down.

"We're still ordering more buses this year. But by next year, the next academic year, we'll have all those buses in those two cities having these types of surveillance cameras."
