Southeast Newcomer Services had an inspiring year, from hosting big events to facilitating Treaty 4 Territory within the City of Estevan. Stephanie Davis Settlement Advisor of Southeast Newcomer Services, "Were the gateway for welcoming all newcomers to Southeast Saskatchewan, regardless if you're from a different country or if your Canadian from another province. Or even if you're from Northern Saskatchewan or Frist Nations Band."

Davis recalls the 2018 year, "Our year was fantastic, we had a lot of events, we had a couple main judge events. One was the Aboriginal Day, which we hosted at Affinity Place there in the courtyard and it was spectacular. We had First Nations dancers and we served free indigenous tacos, and it was open to the public. We also hosted our Collage which was in late September, and that was our cultural festival event of the day. We had different food vendors from different cultural foods, a lot of cultural displays, cultural dancing, we had well received over a couple thousand people that attended."

As for one of her own personal highlights, "Well one of the highlights I would say, we did a little fun anti-discrimination in recognition for the anti-discrimination day we had the 5th graders from Miss Wheeler's class over at Spruce Ridge and they each painted a painting of anti-discrimination meant to them. Their perception of what that is, so there little young minds and what they learned from their teacher about anti-discrimination they were able to put on canvas with beautiful paint and colors. And they were just so excited and I guess to bring awareness to such young youth early on about anti-discrimination, about different cultures and really accepting people for who they are it was just amazing."

Davis is looking forward to 2019 with many activities and events, "Well, our women's cultural dance and arts night is a big hit, it was our third year hosting it, it's just for girls and women's night. Where we come together and we do some cultural dancing, painting, just bond and spend time together to know our neighbors. And its just really fun, so I'm looking forward to that. And of course all the other events we will schedule. Strawberry picking is another favorite, so just to go out to the farm and just watch kids with excitement and run. Find the biggest strawberries and its just a blast."

"We're very proud that we made an impact this year, I know we helped to facilitate the recognition of Treaty 4 Territory with our first nations and the City of Estevan. We're trying to build bridges with our community and with our organizations to make a difference in our community."
