The big day for the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation Lottery was yesterday, at 6 PM when they announced the winners. Travis Frank with the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation announced the winners at the Business Showcase which took place at the Power Dodge Curling Rink on Saturday.

“Ticket sales went very well for year one on this fundraiser and are just determining the actual profit. Being in our first year we are very excited about that, to know that we can continue to work off what we’ve learned, use our now existing base of ticket buyers and grow in the future. Every dollar that we make for the hospital foundation is good, so we are happy to do a fundraiser that makes the money, and this will be profitable, so that’s important and we are pretty happy about that."

“I’m definitely very pleased, especially for a first year fundraiser and one of this size and magnitude. A little bit of my goal being in a temporary role here was to work with different ideas as we potentially faze out the colour run. We wanted to look at different ideas and give some different concepts to work with, so when Beckie returns she can take the information we’ve done and do with it what she pleases. Weather we do this again next year or something a little different, is totally up to her and the direction or the board, that will be their call. We are pretty happy with how it went with year one that’s for sure.”

The Hospital Foundation based the lottery on fundraisers other hospitals have done and are hoping for the lottery to become an annual fundraiser with different prizing next year.

Frank adds, “The money that’ll be raised from this will go towards our doctor recruitment and facility costs. We have been doing some upgrades and trying to make sure that as we get new doctors in the hospital foundation clinic we have the right equipment for them. Basic clinic set-up stuff like computers, chairs and such as well as some of the recruitment costs of bringing them here, touring them around our hospital, setting them up, getting them into their apartments and things like that. That all comes with big costs and this year we’ve really dedicated our money towards that.”
“We had substantially less doctors when I started, I’m always pleased when i get to add a new name to the wall and not take one off. This past 6-months or so that’s been the case, We have 3 new doctors starting this coming week, so that’s a huge plus. I think with the hard work that the hospital, Greg Hoffart and his team have been doing and the funds our board have been able to allocate to him, we’ve been able to see some big strides in bringing more physicians to our city and hopefully keeping the ones we have here happy.”
