Telemiracle 43 wrapped up Sunday at TCU Place in Saskatoon after raising $5,619,214 over the course of the weekend. People in Saskatchewan stepped up to ring those phones for the province’s favourite annual telethon.

The total fell short of last year’s record of $7,151,256. In 2017, the last time the Telemiracle was held in Saskatoon, the telethon raised just over $5 million.

All money raised in the telethon goes towards the Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation, which provides special needs equipment, access to medical assistance and support to people in Saskatchewan.

The first telethon in 1977 raised more than $1 million and then passed the $2 million mark for the first time in 1983. Each year Telemiracle alternates host cities with Regina.

The telethon, which has now raised over $130 million in its four-plus decades featured upwards of 80 performances by Saskatchewan talent, with a cast consisting of long-time host Beverley Mahood, Jess Moskaluke, and Jeffery Straker.
