There was a chill in the air last night and frost on the ground. And it's not going anywhere. In fact, Environment Canada says that we should prepare for the first snow of the year.

"We're forecasting snow for Sunday night into Monday morning," explained Alyssa Petersen with Environment Canada. "Temperatures are forecasted to be warmer in that afternoon. The snow will probably be overnight and early morning and then it will transition to rain in the afternoon."

"At this point, this early in the season, we're still not expecting snowfall to stick around. In October, we do see temperatures well above 0oC.

The average high for this time of year is 16.7oC, while we're only expected to see 8oC this afternoon.

As temperatures drop below freezing for the next few nights, she suggests people take a few precautions like covering any plants you may still have outside.

She also added that wind chills also play a factor now.

"Anytime the temperatures go below 0oC, you can say there are wind chills. We've actually recently upgraded the wording in our forecasts to include windchills. Before, we weren't putting them in the forecasts until temperatures were about -25oC. But it's important information that we've deemed people should know."
