Health officials in Saskatchewan have released some statistics that are making some rethink their position on the flu.

Six people have died from the flu this winter in Saskatchewan compared to just two in the winter of 2017. Three children under the age of five are part of the fatal cases so far.

Figures released this week by the province take a look at the cases through December 29th and show over 1700 lab-confirmed cases of the flu compared to less than 700 in 2017.

Health officials warn parents they need to be alert, older children can likely make it through the flu by staying at home but it's the little ones who are most at risk right now.

Signs to watch for include being unable to eat or drink, rapid breathing and not wanting to be touched.
