Environment Canada has issued a tornado watch for the southeast area.

"We don't issue tornado watches lightly," shared Terri Laing with Environment Canada. "We can see all the ingredients coming together in the southeast corner of Saskatchewan as well as North Dakota and southwestern Manitoba."

"When all those ingredients come together, there's a potential to form a super-cell thunderstorm which can also spawn tornados. Does it mean that it will happen? It just means that the potential is there for that and we really want people to be on their toes and to have a plan."

She added that their plan should first and foremost, to be to stay on top of the forecast.

"Pay attention to any watches or warnings that are out, and we already know that there is a tornado watch. The Sask Alert app is a great app to have because it transmits all the warnings very, very quickly."

She adds to keep an eye on the radar and listen to the radio for regular updates.

"If things do start turning bad, take precautions sooner rather than later because these things can happen really quickly, especially tornados."

"If you're in a house, get into the basement, into the most interior room. Put as many walls as you can between yourself and the outside. If you're in an office building, get into the interior, on the lowest floor, into an interior hallway or bathroom."

She advises not to stay in wide-spanned building such as shopping malls, barns or curling rinks as the roof can be ripped off in a severe storm.

The storm is likely to hit the hardest this afternoon and push through sometime this evening into Manitoba.
