A group of dedicated family members managed to raise over $40,000 to go towards research for the Crone's and Colitis Canada.

"We ended up as a team," shared organizer, Donalda Penley from the Torquay area, "with $35,704 which doesn't include the grant that the government will match for the raffle portion of it which was $17,555."

There was a national competition to see who could raise the most money and the contest closed July 2, 2018.

Penley's granddaughter, Emily suffers from the disease and family members across the province banded together to raise money.

"The group consists of family and close friends. We maintained our position as second nationally when the fundraising ended."

In the individual category, Emily placed 7th.

"We're really pleased with the way things went. The highest was Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto."

The hospital raised around $100,000.

Penley added that they were just happy to be able to contribute to this worthwhile cause and hopefully, one day a cure can be found.
