Winter preparations are in full swing in the southeast, as that's also the case for those in the Town of Arcola.

"Right now," explained Mayor of Arcola, Keith Erick, "we're more or less getting stuff set up for winter."

"We've actually just got two new employees started so they're just learning the ropes. And we'll be getting our snow fences up within the next month."

They will also be shutting down their RV park.

However, the fun is just starting at the rinks.

"The boys are getting ready on the curling rink and skating rink. I think by October 17th the ice will be in both of those areas."

Of course with the seasons changing, they aren't expecting a lot of new development.

"Very few new permits coming in for houses. We've had a few for garages."

He added that the economic downturn, things have been fairly slow and there are quite a few houses for sale.
