Federal, Provincial, and Territorial Transport ministers held a meeting in Montreal earlier this week to discuss ways to improve transportation. One of the topics they were discussing was seatbelts in School Buses.

"What they've decided to do is to set up a task force to research exactly what the benefits of that would be and once they do that we'll figure out if that's something they want to move forward with or not," explained the Saskatchewan Minister of Highways and Infrastructure, Lori Carr.

"One of our focuses was on safety and competitiveness for the province of Saskatchewan. Obviously, safety being minimal entry-level training for truck drivers, which Saskatchewan will be implementing in March of this year. It's something that the federal minister wanted to implement right across Canada. They are going to look at that and he has committed to having those regulations in place by January 1st, 2020 to be enacted right across Canada."

"As far as competitiveness goes for the province of Saskatchewan, we felt it was important to have a national dialogue on Canada's ability to get commodities to market to support our economic growth.
