Fire engines and command trucks raced through red lights on Monday just before lunchtime to attend to a call.

They responded to a residential fire alarm at a condo complex in the north part of the city, according to Fire Chief Dale Feser.

Contrary to what was reported earlier, smoke was present at the scene, however, it appears that it was mostly contained within the building.

"It was a result of unattended cooking at the stove, but thanks to the quick thinking actions of the tenants they were able to get back and turn the burner off."

"The third floor was still filled with a fairly large amount of smoke, so once we arrived on scene we made sure that things were stable then spent approximately 45 minutes ejecting it from the building, thereby allowing us to reset the fire alarm," he added.

Feser gave a few words of advice for people to take away from the incident.

"When we are doing any cooking, we want to make sure that it's always attended at all times. In this case the people in the suite were distracted by something else, and that resulted in a boil over of some of the food being prepared. We always want to make sure that we are right by that stove."

"If something happens that we are going to be away from the stove for a little bit,  just slide the food off to a burner that is not hot and turn off the other burner until you can come back, and have your full attention directed to your cooking," he concluded.
