It wasn't the dump of snow that some cities across the prairies saw, but it was enough to remind residents that winter is coming. 

"It looks as though a few centimetres has fallen over the last four to five hours," explained Heather Pimiskern with Environment Canada. "Specifically, maybe 2-4 cm upwards to five cm in some locations."

She added that in most areas, it has already melted helping out any travellers out this afternoon, and much of what is left isn't likely to remain for long.

"Looking at the long-range, we do have temperatures over the next couple of days that will be above zero."

However, according to the five-day forecast, more snow is on the way on Friday.
