Many are taking advantage of summer holidays and are heading south for some fun in the sun in the United States.

When crossing the border you may experience some delays, depending on the time of day.

It is suggested travellers use the crossing at North Portal as the crossing is open 24/7.

While there have been some reports of delays being caused by inspection of electronics, such as cell phones and laptops, it is a misconception that all electronics are being searched.

"I think the misconception is that all these electronic devices are being searched and they're not. We're searching less than 0.0001% of electronic media," said Chief Aaron Bowler with US Customs and Border Protection. "It is possible that your electronic media is searched, but there are rules and parameters for that, and there's always a supervisor involved in that decision making when that happens."

It is noted that before making the crossing that people should check what is allowed across the border, and are sure to always be truthful with the border crossing agents.
