Precipitation has been better for the month of August compared to July.

"We did make up some ground with respect to precipitation which is still continuing of course with the really dry trend but a little more in the way of precipitation in August. Estevan received 28.4 mm of rain, normally that's about 51.7 mm. It's sort of going in the right direction since there's more rain than what was received previously, so that's a good thing compared to the other months," explained Regional Meteorologist Terri Laing.

"Interestingly though the temperature was slightly below average, the average temperature in August was 17.4 and normally it's 18.6 which was certainly a bit of a change from earlier in the summer. Overall when you compare everything it's been quite a dry and warm summer."

"We're back to that big ridge of high pressure that we've seen over western Canada for most of the province, that's sort of what's been causing most of the issues in British Columbia is the big ridge of high pressure that kind of parks over western Canada and gives a lot of hot and dry weather. That ridge has built itself back up and it looks like it's going to be staying for awhile, so we'll have some cooler, windier conditions towards later in the week but then later on next week it looks like the ridge is going to rebuild again," she stated.

Around Labour Day weekend temperatures are looking to be around average.

"The models are sort of flip flopping, it's trying to show a big low pressure system moving over eastern Canada and pushing sort of cooler air towards Saskatchewan. We'll see if that actually happens because we haven't seen that happen at all this summer, so we'll see if that holds true. So far it's looking sort of at average temperatures not so much in the way of rain and maybe a little bit on the windy side but we'll see how the models do with the forecast just because it's not looking sort of like what we usually see at this time in the year."

"We're hoping that we'll eventually get that moisture but that it won't effect the harvest that's going on right now, it's been one for those summers where the moisture hasn't been there when we needed it so we'll see what the fall brings."
