Estevan's City Council will convene for their regular meeting tonight, and while the docket is light on the quantity of topics, the subject matter carries some weight.

First, a presentation will take place, given by Lester Hinzman. He and Darren Jones, who crafted the Soldier Tree, are creating a monument to commemorate a deadly plane crash that took place in 1946 at the Estevan Airport, at that time located south of town. All 21 lives on board that flight were lost.

"He (Jones) did a beautiful job on the Soldier Tree, and now he'll be sculpting the faces of the fallen airmen," shared Mayor Roy Ludwig.

September will also be proclaimed by the Mayor as Prostate Cancer Awareness month, with some associated ways to mark the occasion.

"It's a dreadful thing, and unfortunately many men get it. We're looking at probably lighting up either the tree in front or the Soldier Tree in blue to commemorate that."

He concluded by expressing his excitement for the upcoming airshow on September 17th.

"We appreciate the fact that Council is supporting that endeavour, and we know it'll be a great day."
