As folks in Estevan prepare to mark another Remembrance Day this Saturday, schools are getting ahead of the game and holding their services in advance.

Student's at Westview led the ceremony on Wednesday morning, as they have done for the past 14 years.

"We think it's really important for them to take the leadership on an occasion like this. When they do the work to organize this and present it to the other students in the school, it really makes them understand the importance of the event, and how we need to remember, even though years have gone by," shared Principle Cheri Haberstock.

Troy LeBlanc from the Estevan Legion showed the kids a variety artifacts from World War 1 and 2.

New this year was a presentation from Troy LeBlanc of the Royal Canadian Legion Estevan branch. He brought with him a variety of different World War 1 and 2 memorbilia, including uniform parts, equipment and an artillery shell. He presented a poem and gave the kids a bit of a history lesson, as well as showing the video, 'A Pittence Of Time'.

"It was fascinating, the kids were glued. He had their total attention. We always try to change it up and make it interesting and different every year. Last time we had someone come and speak about the Soldier Tree, so this year we thought we'd have somebody from the Legion. It just made it so much more interesting for our students," Haberstock said.

The Junior and Senior choir sang related songs, representatives of grades one and two laid wreaths, and others read poems as a part of the service as well.
