A Weyburn woman and her boyfriend are in hospital, after surviving a mudslide in B.C. on the long weekend.

Sheri Niemegeers and Gabe Rosescu, who is from Regina, were driving to Nelson, B.C. Thursday when their vehicle was caught up in a landslide caused by recent rains in the area. The vehicle was swept off the highway, and down a cliff, landing on trees toppled by the incident.

A passing motorist saw the landslide, and stopped traffic, then checked to see if anyone was caught up in the slide. The firefighter, who happened to be from Saskatchewan as well, heard the calls for help from the pair and helped them to safety.

Niemegeers was taken to hospital in Trail, B.C. with a broken sternum and ankle. Rosescu is in hospital in Kelowna with a number of severe head injuries. He is listed as in serious but stable condition.
