It may not be an issue this week, but when the snow does come, residents are being reminded to keep the fire hydrants clear.

"We do ask our citizens to give us a hand with snow clearing when it comes to the winter months," explained Fire Chief, Dale Feser, "especially if you have a fire hydrant on your property."

He added that you need three feet of clearance around the hydrant for crews to get in and connect the hoses.

"It's really prevalent when we get a deep covering of snow which can hamper fire suppression operations."

But it's not just a winter problem.

"You want to make sure you don't have a lot of growth of vegetation that is obscuring the fire hydrant from the view of the fire department or hampering the firefighters as well. If you do have vegetation that is encroaching on that three-foot radius, you want to make sure that gets trimmed and free and clear of any obstructions."
