After the Government of Saskatchewan released the results of their trespassing survey, the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation released the results of their own survey on the same topic.

Darrell Crabbe is the Executive Director of the Saskatchewan Wildlife Federation. He explains what they found with the results.

“The number 1 concerns were lead by rural crime. Unauthorized vehicle access – predominately ATVs, snowmobiles, that sort of thing was number 2. Then there's concerns of hunters; bio-security and that sort of thing. It just confirms what the real concerns on the landscape are.”

Crabbe says their survey was a lot more in-depth than the provinces, and it was sent out directly to hunters and land owners.

“Ours was a 12-page document, so we asked a lot of other questions that certainly were framed differently than the ones asked by the government. There wasn't any controls on the other one [government survey]; anybody that wanted to respond to that one could have responded as many times as they’d like.”

“A lot of our questions were based on what the problems were and what solutions might fix those issues. What we want to ensure is that any legislation or new programs developed actually address the major concerns that landowners have. There should be some action taken to help alleviate those concerns.”

With new legislation being drawn up, Crabbe hopes the province is considerate and hopes that any changes will affect law abiding citizens as little as possible.
