The provincial government has announced that the Winter Weights Period has been delayed this year due to weather and road conditions.

Typically, the Winter Weight Period begins November 16, however roads in the province are not fully frozen and additional weights could damage pavement and the road structures beneath.

Saskatchewan's winters help to freeze and strengthen the roads. And as a result for weight can be transported on highways in the province, which creates improved efficiency for trucking goods and exporting Saskatchewan products.

The Government of Saskatchewan has invested $8.4 billion in transportation infrastructure since 2008.

The province says roads structures will continue to be monitored and Winter Weights will be implemented as sufficient freezing exists.
