The St. Joseph's new Women's Health Clinic received a major boost when the Estevan Lions Club recently donated $3,000.

"We're very appreciative of the Lions Club for their most generous donation towards the forthcoming Women's Health Clinic here at St. Joe's," shared Greg Hoffart, Executive Director at the St. Joseph's Hospital. "It's a very worthwhile clinic that is being started."

Cervical cancer is the fourth most common reproductive cancer in Canadian women.

"Right now there isn't the proper screening in southeast Saskatchewan so with donations like this and the arrival of our new obstetrician, Dr. Sawwan, we can certainly make advances in this regard. This donation will truly help get this program up and running."

He adds that the money received will help towards equipment in the clinic which is in the finishing stages of completion.

"The diagnostic equipment that comes along with this practice is quite expensive, as all hospital screening equipment is, so the donation from the Lions will generously help us get to where we need to be in this clinic."

"We're just putting the final touches on the plans and the concepts for the program and we're hopeful to be started by the end of the month."
