Saturday, September 30, marked the last day for short term and seasonal campground rentals at Woodlawn Regional Park.

"It was good, it was very good," explained Joanne Schulte, Park Manager. "The lack of rain actually helped camping so it was very well attended at Woodlawn and Boundary. Boundary was a slow starting because of the excessive winds in June but the beautiful weather in July made up for it."

She adds that the summer seemed to be busy most weekends.

"The park, it generate a lot of traffic throughout the season. A lot of people take advantage of the park for their vacations, so every weekend was good."

"Beach Bash was late July and it went over extremely well, the two days were very well attended with approximately 1600 people between the two days."

She adds that they made a few changes to the park throughout the summer.

"This year we changed Boundary a bit. We moved our gate house and with that, the old gate house turned into a concession which was a really nice plus to Boundary. At Woodlawn, we made all of our short term campsites full service which is a huge addition to the park. And also, as I speak today, we are putting in a new playground by Rotary Park which will be very well used by people who rent the hall."

"Also this summer, we did see the completion of Fresh Air Fitness, an outdoor fitness area at Woodlawn as well at an expansion to our free run dog park. And a new bridge that was put up near the Doug Third building."

"It was busy both with project-wise and people-wise so it was a good summer, a really good summer."

And she adds, the upgrades aren't over yet.

"We are looking at next year, putting in a splash park at Woodlawn and also, we will be putting in a canoe, kayak and paddle boat rentals at Boundary and Woodlawn locations so we're very much looking forward to that."

But for now, they will be concentrating on preparing for the winter season.

"Once the seasonals are gone, there is some maintenance that needs to happen before we shut down for the winter months. People can still utilize the park in the winter for walking or cross country skiing. And the dog park is still utilized over the winter. The Woodlawn park is a beautiful location for those winter activities."
