Contributing to the sports community is not just for those playing sports. But it's also, for grandparents who watch and have many talents like Deloris Brooks. She has been making Afghans for the Estevan Bruins team for 4 years now and has completed 15 all together. With this most recent honor extra hard to do.
Following the tragic death of 44-year-old Mike Sarada, Deloris was approached to make an afghan in Memory of the beloved coach. It was an easy decision for the grandmother of two of his former players.
Bonnie Strutt, who is on the committee for the Mike Sarada Memorial Day knew of the tremendous talent that Deloris has and thought of her as soon as “Mike Sarada Memorial Day” was thought up of. Bonnie contacted Deloris, and set the crochet hook into motion with this well-played idea.
When speaking with Deloris, “It was the hardest one to do, but I was honored to be asked.” And she did a fantastic job and through this afghan of warmth, she is keeping the memory alive for more than one person touched by Mike Sarada.
An afghan is a simple way to remember a man who did much and impacted so many. And with the heart of our local Mrs. Brooks and her talented hands, it is no wonder she was to take part.
