Lauren Golosky with Saskatchewan Agriculture updated me on Rural Women’s Month.
“Together with the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Agriculture we just proclaimed March 2018 as Rural Women’s Month.”
“And really more than anything, just to bring some awareness to it, and to talk about the important roles that females play in Saskatchewan Agriculture and our Economy.”
For more information Golosky adds, “They can visit our website at Rural Women's Month, and there will be information there about the important role that women play in Saskatchewan Agriculture and our Rural economies.”
Lauren put things into perspective, “Approximately 40% of all women live in rural areas and are involved in agriculture in one way or another. So really playing a huge role in our agriculture and supporting our economy.”
“Typically when you think of farmers, its primarily men that come to mind. But according to the recent census its one in ten out of the 11,000 female farm operators are sole proprietors.”
“When you look at the numbers across Saskatchewan a good number of them are women. They are doing the job and doing a really great job of it.”
So if you know of a fantastic woman who is a farmer, be sure to send them some form of appreciation this month.
