Confession time with a Sun 102 show host: I know nothing about the Super Bowl. You couldn't even fill one of those product placement athletic Gatorade water bottles all the athletes use with the knowledge I have about the Super Bowl. Don't get me wrong; I like football. I'm a Saskatchewan Roughriders fan by blood but have never had any interest in the NFL. I know that the Super Bowl is the American equivalent of the Grey Cup, that is if the Grey Cup was allowed to use steroids and still participate as a sporting event.
Super Bowl Sunday is arguably the biggest annual sporting event out there but I just. don't. care. And I imagine there are a few of you out there, witnessing your social media accounts blow up like mine about the Patriots and the Rams (whatever that means).
So, here we are. If you're like me and you're just trying to get through another Sunday afternoon, here are my top three strategies for how to survive the Super Bowl.
3. Enjoy the Commercials via Youtube
I mean, companies spend millions and millions of dollars for air time during the Super Bowl which results in some of televisions best commercials. For real, some people specifically watch the Super Bowl for the ads, but here's the kicker, you don't even need to do that anymore! Thanks to the brilliance of the internet, just Youtube that and wash your hands of the sporting event altogether. You're welcome.
2. Capitalize on the AWESOME Food
One of the best things about Super Bowl Sunday is all the snacks that go on sale, restaurant deals, and food in general. Capitalize on the opportunity to eat those nachos; indulge yourself and have another cold one! It's Super Bowl Sunday and food makes everything better, so why not?
1. Just Ignore It
This might seem easier said than done because of all the hype, but really, you're an adult, I have faith in you. Turn off the television, shut down Facebook, and ignore it for the day. Tomorrow your social media will return to pictures of kittens and weather memes, so there's no need to panic. In the meantime, pick up a book or get to that project you've meant to do all weekend and enjoy your Sunday afternoon!
