The Estevan Police Service was called Tuesday about a male going through vehicles on the southeast end of town, and early Thursday morning there was a call of a similar nature.

A report came in of a male going through a yard on the 400 block of Spruce Drive around 3:30 to 4 a.m.

Sgt. Tyler McMillen said they responded to the area and did foot patrols as well as stationary surveillance, but could not locate the suspicious person.

"It is not known if he got into anything or stole anything," said McMillen. "But we want people to be aware to keep their garages locked and check their cars and property this morning to see if anything's missing."

McMillen said instances like these aren't typically more common at certain times of year. Rather, they're dependent on many factors.

"I think it's just whenever. There could be a variety of things behind it - whether it's mental health, whether it's addictions, whether it's economic or somebody's just lost their job. I don't think there's any given time. It seems to be more lifestyle or the circumstances we're in that causes them to be out at a certain time."

Police do have some camera images they'll be analyzing to try to identify the person.
