A 17-year-old male from Coquitlam, B.C. appeared in person in Estevan Provincial Court Monday morning following a drug bust that saw police seize dozens of baggies of what appears to be cocaine and $4,135 in cash.

The defendant, who can't be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested early in the morning on Saturday, March 19.

He was charged with trafficking cocaine, possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine, possession of property obtained by crime, and failing to comply with a probation order.

He was in custody through the weekend. He hadn't retained a lawyer by his morning appearance, so his matter was set to the afternoon, at which point he could call Legal Aid and the Crown could review his file and determine whether they would consent to the defendant's release (therefore not requiring a show-cause hearing).
