Dangerously-cold conditions are expected to hang around southeast Saskatchewan throughout the week.

Environment Canada has an extreme cold warning in effect.

Warning Preparedness Meteorologist Natalie Hasell said the weather won't warm up considerably until Friday. Certain times of day are particularly frigid.

"Especially in the overnight and early-morning periods, where conditions are frostbite in minutes. So really important for people to plan their time properly."

Windchill values around -42 C are present Tuesday morning.

Daytime highs of -23, -17, and -14 are forecast for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Lows of -33, -28, and -21 are expected, not factoring in the windchill.

"We are under the influence of a ridge of high pressure. And this ridge of high pressure is defined by the arctic air that was left in the wake of the system that went through this weekend."

The usual daytime high this time of year is around -4. You can expect to get closer to that on Friday, with a high of -5 forecast.

The extreme cold warning states "Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter. If it's too cold for you to stay outside, it's too cold for your pet to stay outside."
