The arid southeast will finally get some of the moisture that agriculturists in the area have been waiting for.

Residents woke up Tuesday morning to strong winds, and then saw periodic rain showers throughout the morning.

"There is a low pressure system developing down in Montana, and it will be passing through southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba Tuesday night, then moving up into central Manitoba through the day Wednesday, and continuing to affect the province all the way through until Thursday," explained Environment Canada's John Paul Cragg.

"We're expecting thunderstorms to develop Tuesday afternoon, looking at rainfall amounts of 10-15 millimeters and another 15-25 millimeters overnight."

He added that Tuesday evening could see some stronger thunderstorms move in, potentially dropping up to 50 millimeters of rain locally. However, those chances are rather low.

"Just in front of the development of this low we've got the easterly winds. Expect those to continue to be strong into Tuesday evening, then by Wednesday they will have switched around to the northwest, and you'll be seeing winds gusting to 60 kilometers per hour. These will continue through until Thursday as well."

"It will be a windy, as well as rainy, few days in the southeast," Cragg observed.

He also stressed the importance of staying on top of the weather forecast, and keeping an eye out for watches and warnings for your area.
