UPDATE 6:57am: The Estevan Police Service confirms that they have apprehended the suspect and the male is now in custody. 

Chief Rich Lowen shared that law enforcement was able to get to the suspect with the EPS' Joint Tactical Team alongside the RCMP Emergency Response Team. He added that law enforcement resources from Weyburn and Regina were also deployed for added assistance. 

He added that there is no threat to the public and that the crews will be clearing out of the area later this morning. An update on the injured male was not given. 


UPDATE 6:27am: The Estevan Police Service has given more context to the situation at hand. 

According to Chief Rich Lowen, a male was shot last night just after 9:00 pm on the 1700 block of 3rd Street. The male was transported to the hospital where he is being treated. The Estevan Police Service was looking for a suspect all night. The male suspect was later found to have contained himself inside his residence. The police posted this update on their Twitter at 11:45 pm.

After refusing to leave his home, the EPS listed the help of the RCMP Emergency Response Team. At this time, 3rd Street is still blocked on 18 Avenue and 16 Avenue. EPS expressed that there is no danger to the public, but has advised to stay away from the area and to stay indoors if you live near the area. 

No updates have been given by the police.

BREAKING 9:40pm: The Estevan Police Service is reporting a firearm discharge on the 1700 block of 3rd Street tonight. The police shared that an adult male is outstanding and believed to be armed. 

Residents are being asked to stay indoors and keep clear of the area, as police are on the scene.
