Jeff Smith was born in Estevan but moved away in 1983 to Regina. He's lived a lot of places since then, but now he's back where it all began, sharing his years of hockey wisdom with the Estevan Bruins.

After a 15-year pro career, Smith joins the Bruins as an assistant coach. The former Red Deer Rebel and Memorial Cup champion stepped out of the cold and into the Rock 106 booth on Friday morning to talk about coming back home and joining the Bruins.

We also chatted about memories from his time in Europe, playing pro hockey in Australia, the loaded Rebels team he won junior hockey's biggest prize with, and the work he's doing with another big, bruising defenseman, Bruins blue liner Austin King-Cunningham.

Smith will be on the Bruins bench for the playoff run and hopefully into the future, sharing his years of hockey experience with the next generation of players who, as he put it, bleed black and gold.
