LOIS & DANNY:

Southeast Team trade in Winter Boots and Parkas for Flip Flops and T-shirts.

Heading off to Guatemala for 10 days isn’t always fun in the sun with Coconuts and White Sandy Beaches. Its also, for those who want to make an impact on the world outside our front door. A team of 9 will set out from Regina to board a plane and meet up in Calgary with another group from Saskatoon. Bringing the total up to 16 people headed down to Antigua, Guatemala February 12th to the 23rd. Where we will partner with an organization called Fe Viva and spend our days shovelling dirt, and laying turf grass for a soccer field.

As we travel around the area, we will also have the opportunity to visit a men’s prison, hand out shoes and clothes to young kids. Work with Youth and those in need of new stoves in their homes with proper ventilation.

I am also, quite surprised I was able to drag along my father, who isn't considered your frequent flyer. My father, Vernon Duncan has not been on an airplane before. So this will in fact be his first trip and quite the culture shock to say the least. If the heat doesn't blow his hair back once he steps off the plane, the smells sure will. I look forward to experiencing all that Guatemala has to offer and I look forward to a bit more heat than what Saskatchewan is pumping out right now.

It will be a busy and a full 10 days, but worth all the smiling faces at the end of this journey.
