It's National Cheese Day today, which to me sounds like a great excuse to eat cheese all day long! So that's what we did. We went to the Co-op Grocery Store here in Estevan and asked for their best cheese recommendation to celebrate this wacky national observance and walked out of the store with a sample of Cheddar, Marble, Mozzarella, Jalapeno Monterey Jack, and Cranberry & Pepper cheeses.

We put the taste testing to a vote and decided our favourite was the Boursin Cranberry and Pepper soft white cheese. It's flavourful and spreadable, and so, so yummy!

We also found this great "Let's Talk Cheese" brochure available near the Co-op cheese counter. It has fun facts, suggestions, and information on the art of serving cheese to your guests. Did you know that, like fine wine, you have to let cheese "breathe" before serving it? This helps with "developing and maintaining" the cheese's flavour. It's also important to remember not to place cheese too close together when you build a fancy cheese platter; otherwise, you risk mingling the aromas and flavours, meaning that stinky blue cheese beside soft gouda is probably not the best idea.

If you're looking for a way to celebrate National Cheese Day, why not head over to Co-op yourself and do what we did? Or you could always put a modern spin on a family classic tonight at supper and try a different cheese in your grilled cheese sandwich! Whatever you do, it is sure to be a yummy way to celebrate this favourite food!
