Wednesday, November 15 marks an exciting change to radio in Estevan and the surrounding area.

The popularity of country music continues to grow, and the genre, growing bigger than ever, reigns supreme. Today, Golden West in Estevan is excited to unveil the new Country 106.1.

"Country music is a red-hot format across Saskatchewan, and there's a massive appetite for the genre in the southeast," said Golden West's program director in Estevan, Andrew McCormack. "We're listening to what the community wants, and that's country music on the FM dial."

"I think this is a terrific time for the community of Estevan and all of southeast Saskatchewan," added Brett Adnum, the chief operating officer of Golden West. "When you look around at all the local, emerging artists and acts that perform at the fairs and the festivals in the area, country is always involved and its popularity continues to soar."

"It's super exciting for our community, especially not just in our community, but in southeast Saskatchewan," said Golden West Estevan's sales manager Hannah Battersby. "Our roots are in country and we have a lot of country listenership here in our communities and country is just a big thing. So we're excited to have country on an FM radio station here in Estevan and for southeast Saskatchewan."

The change on the FM dial isn’t the only one being made this morning.

CJ 1150 will now feature the best hits of the 70s, 80s, and 90s, as it joins the Golden West AM Network.

What won't change is Golden West's commitment to the community and remaining the leader in local news, local sports, community events, and local voices, on the exciting new Country 106.1 and CJ 1150.
