ECS athletes showed well on the badminton court on Saturday, as they hosted several other schools in the District competition.

With 7 Estevan teams in competition, 5 of them are moving on to Regionals in Whitewood next weekend, with a medal count of 3 gold and 2 silver.

The mixed doubles duo of Jean Rose Be and John Sasi took first, as did Justin Van Achte in the boys singles and Ruth Pecson in the girls singles. Two second place slots were claimed by Christian Prawdzik and Maya Daoust in the mixed doubles and Sarah Nobiss and Trinity Rooks in girls doubles. All the above are set to move on.

"Some were a surprise. The confidence was there, and they just have to keep playing hard. Our team that we knew would go on is moving on, which we thought. Otherwise, we just have to keep preparing like we have," said Coach Sheena Summers.

"We're up against Regina and Qu'appelle Valley, so it should be a good challenge."

The top two from Regionals will go on to Provincials in Wilkie.

First place in the mixed doubles was secured by Jean Rose Be and John Sasi.

Ruth Pecson took first in the girls singles.
