The minor football season is officially underway in the City of Estevan as the young players have picked up their equipment and have started practicing.

"We're anxious to get the season going," explained Estevan Minor Football's Vice President Kevin Mortenson.

"I know the coaches are excited seeing some of the kids show up, some who we haven't seen since October. It was great to see, I'm excited and we look forward to hitting the field "

The Century 21 Pee Wee Chargers were at it on Saturday for their first practice, while the Atom Power Dodge Kudas and the Bantam Estevan Lions Club Oilers hit the practice field on Tuesday, August 22nd.

Just like any other sports organization, Estevan Minor Football is always looking for some extra help.

"We're definitely never going to turn away any volunteers and we're always looking for new board members down the road, some of us are getting older. Also looking for officials, everyone seems to know the rules of the game so we need some of these people out on the field to prove it," Mortenson joked.

Every coach from the CFL level to Minor football is now required to take a safe tackling clinic instituted by Football Canada.

"They have to take the course. Everyone will be certified and if we have enough interest to get a minimum of six more coaches, I'll instruct the course again."

General field maintenance volunteers are needed as well and can contact Kevin Mortenson at 421-3377 or Paul Duncan at 487-8418.
