The recent tempest that left 6 foot snow drifts and vehicles strewn across the highways this week kept members of the Estevan Fire Department, among other emergency services, busy.

Fire Chief Dale Feser was thankful for the public's cooperation in staying off the roads, allowing his men to work more efficiently.

"Blizzard conditons are dangerous, of course, for people trying to travel in them. However, they're just as risky for the emergency response crews trying to go out and rescue individuals."

Although the majority of the effects of the storm have already been cleaned up, there is still more to go, and there are more ways that you can help to ensure that the First Responder's job is unhindered.

With the recent snow accumulation, the City of Estevan and Estevan Fire and Rescue services are asking the public to assist in ensuring that all fire hydrants are clean and clear of snow on your property.

"Make sure there is at least a one meter, or three foot radius cleared from the center of the hydrant, so teams can establish a water supply to the trucks in the event of a fire," Feser said.

He added that he understands that there is a lot of snow, however, it is important to ensure that no hydrants are buried.
