The Estevan Girl Guides and Pathfinders are one of the many volunteer groups, though one of the youngest, in our community that gives back throughout the year.

Not only do they get to learn leadership skills and become future volunteers in Estevan, but they also receive the opportunity to connect with environment and enjoy the outdoors.

With that in mind, a very special adventure is planned for the group this summer with a trip to Banff National Park in Alberta! However, those trips don't come cheap so the girls took it upon themselves to find different ways to come up with some cash.

On Tuesday night, the Girl Guides and Pathfinders hosted a 'Steak and Chicken Fundraiser' at Blackbeard's Restaurant in Estevan. At the end of the evening, the supporters left full and satisfied while the girls happily left with a good chunk of the funds needed for the trip.

"The girls did amazing," expressed Pathfinder Leader Sheryl March. "The girls always put such an effort forward to do everything required for our programs."

"They were involved with selling the tickets for tonight, with the ideas moving forward, and being prepared for what the trip is all about and get a clear understanding of what the Pathfinder (and Girl Guide) program is. I'm really proud of them."

The upcoming trip to Alberta in July will provide the younger Girl Guides and the older Pathfinders the unique opportunity to explore what the programs are all about in a stunning location.

"It's an trip that falls within our motto that states building independence in girls and adventure," adds Christa Morhart, one of the Co-Guiders for the Estevan chapter of the Girl Guides. "We'll spend some time in Banff and Calgary, do some touring and some camping...it will be a very busy trip for the girls."

The trip to Alberta is also a necessary step for the group to take as they look to potentially go on an international trip at some point in the future.
