This year, a lot of businesses and organizations that rely on getting people together had a tough time thanks to the various restrictions put in place from the COVID pandemic.

One of those organizations is the Estevan Legion, which usually holds fundraisers throughout the year, while also renting out its hall for events that raise more money.

Since those events were canceled, the Legion's been having a bit of a tougher year.

That hasn't stopped them from helping out in the community, as with one of their last donations they provided uniforms to a local girl's hockey team.

Legion President Frosty Forrest was at the forefront of giving out these donations.

"They were looking to buy track uniforms," said Forrest, "Along with tracksuits. We were able to purchase six of them at a total cost of $960. That's part of our mandate, to support youth sports, and we're glad to do that."

Forrest says it's been a rough year for the Legion thanks to the lack of social events.

"It is a rough year. With the COVID thing and all these restrictions, our hall rentals are almost non-existent. It's been a struggle," said Forrest, "We have to be prudent and be careful with our money so we can remain open and keep going."

While Forrest says he's optimistic about 2022 being a better year for the legion, he also says it's ultimately not up to him.

"Everything hinges on what we're allowed to do," said Forrest, "Like as long as the restrictions remain in place, there's not a lot that we can do in our halls and so on so it all depends on that."

The Legion is finishing up their year with a truck raffle that's set to be drawn on December 31st.
