There's an increased police presence around the Village of North Portal this week, with what looks to be a planned protest regarding COVID-19 health measures.

The Village posted on its Facebook page that they're aware of the event slated to begin Friday.

They've been in touch with the Estevan RCMP.

"Police will be onsite 24 hours a day during the event," reads the Facebook post. "The RCMP will be monitoring traffic flow into the village from Highway 39 and the grid roads east of town. Travelers can expect to be asked the purpose of their trip to North Portal during the duration of the event. Parking along Highway 39 will be strictly prohibited and enforced by the RCMP."

The Saskatchewan RCMP has not confirmed if the increased police presence in Estevan is related to the protest planned in North Portal.
