Numerous spells of extremely cold weather this winter haven't dispelled work on a major project on the Estevan bypass.

Crews have been busy at the location of a Southern Plains Co-op $6.5-million development.

The project will see some of the Co-op facilities on Kensington move to the bypass, which should lead to improved access to goods used by producers.

Southern Plains Co-op General Manager Brian Enns said they intend to complete the project by early spring, at which point they'll have fertilizer, chemicals, and seed for farmers.

"Bulk fuel delivery will happen, as well as bulk oil. And for the chemical part of it, farm chemical, we will have delivery if needed. The fertilizer is usually picked up or direct to farm."

Enns said they don't get involved in fertilizer delivery.

He added that it's a good opportunity for the cooperative.

"Something that the board of directors has been working on for a while and the timing has become a reality now where we'd like to move into that market, and we see opportunities to grow."

The Co-op Agro Centre from Kensington will be moved. Though the Cardlock on Kensington will remain.
