Saskatchewan produces a massive amount of Canadian flax.

Larry Webber, a Market Analyst with Webber Commoditie, says the market for flax is up mainly because of bio-fuel, but there were other reasons for the increase as well: Australia was reporting a 25 million metric tonne crop, there was a frost in Argentina in November, and Europe had incessent rain while they were trying to combine. Webber says this results in a demand issue that can't be fulfilled in one year.

Last year, Saskatchewan contributed 1.6 million acres of flax toward Canada's total of 2 million flax acres.
