An evening to appreciate the importance of agriculture in our community, by celebrating the Farm Family of the Year.

Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce Jackie Wall, "The Farm Family awards dinner last night, and the winner was Jeff and Stacy Marcotte, JSM farms. It was an absolute pleasure to see them come out with a big, big amount of family, and co-workers, colleagues, neighbors. So it was a fantastic evening, we also had 5 speakers from the 4H club, and it's always a pleasure to listen to them. I know for some of them, its the first time they have really done any speaking in public. They are always a highlight of the evening."

The 4H speakers were Cheyenne Lake - "Horses" - Junior, Crossroads Club, Sierra Mantei - "LLB" - Junior, Outram-Madigan Club, Ellie Hayes - "Girl Power" - Cloverbud, Benson Club, Karina Hjorteland - "Favourites" - Junior, Browning Club, and Sophia Fleck - "Slime" - Junior, Steelman Club.

Jason LeBlanc spoke about his trip to Regina for the Justin Trudeau Town Hall Meeting. He also spoke about the United We Roll Convoy to Ottawa.

"We also paid tribute to George Poage, his family was there and his wife Wilma, he was a gentleman that served for over 30 years on the Farm Family committee. And so we wanted to take a moment and recognize the contribution to the farm family committee as well as other community endeavors that he was involved in. We also presented his wife with some flowers, so that was also a special moment."

They also brought in guest speaker Howie Mercer, Wall adds, "A lot of information about the markets globally and how the effect our commodity prices. What farmers could be expecting with China and canola. It was really great hearing him speak with his passion and enthusiasm with farming and working in the Ag industry." Howie is passionate about Agriculture and working with growers to increase their returns. He grew up working on his family's seed farm and has worked in the grain industry for the last 16 years.

"It was absolutely tremendous to have them come out, they had their children their, those who helped them on the farm. They have been going through a lot personally and persevered and continue to farm. And I think it shows how resilient farmers are and how passionate they are about what they do. And how when things get tough, people come together to help another farmer see their way through a tough time. I have been involved in the Ag industry myself for very many years, and there really is nothing like that comradery with farming neighbors helping one another get through tough times."
