Proof-of-vaccination policies in Saskatchewan are set to be gone next week, which was announced in a press conference yesterday.

That means that locations like restaurants will no longer be mandated to check for vaccination status for customers.

Shortly following that announcement, the provincial NDP set up their own conference to respond to the announcement.

NDP leader Ryan Meili says

"As I think about the choices today, and where we're going in the weeks ahead, my mind goes back to a pattern we've seen from Scott Moe throughout the pandemic. He always wants to be the first to remove public health protections, and yet be the last to bring them in when they're needed."

He then referenced the opening of the province in the Summer of 2021 and the subsequent proof-of-vaccination system that was put in place in the fall as examples.

Meili voiced his support for returning to normal but said it's difficult to trust the current Premier.

"While we all want to see life go back to normal, we all want to see these inconveniences removed, we want to see them at a time when it's safe. I gotta say that it's very hard to trust Scott Moe. To trust that he's making the right choices for Saskatchewan people."

One of the calls that Meili makes is to increase the amount of data available to the residents of Saskatchewan.

"It's extremely hard to trust him when at the same time as he's making these choices, he's also decreasing the amount of information we have available. Decreasing access to testing, and decreasing the data about what's happening to COVID-19 that's available to Saskatchewan people."

That includes a call to action for the provincial government which came from Meili's address.

"Today I'm calling on the government to change tacks when it comes to the way that they share information with us. give us a roadmap for how we move past the public health measures that are required right now, but also how we bring in measures if necessary."
